Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Proverbs 1:7
Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage is this, that wisdom preserves the life of its possessor. Ecclesiastes 7:12
God gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things. He knows what lies in the darkness and light dwells with him. Daniel 2:21-22

What comes to mind when you think about someone that you know who is smart? Do you know someone that is highly intelligent about everything? Do you know someone that is brilliant in a certain area? Are they naturally gifted or have they studied that subject for years and have years of experience?

Do you know someone that is very wise? When you ask them about life situations they always give you wise solutions or they always know the wise thing to say or not to say in a given circumstance. Do you know someone who has a lot of common sense? They have wonderful problem solving skills and just always know the right thing to do.

Proverbs says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge. Is it the kind of fear that makes you shake and tremble and want to turn away? No, it is a reverent respect and understanding acknowledging that it is God who gives us all wisdom and understanding. God is the one who gives man his knowledge to create, invent, dream up new inventions, new technology, new discoveries of the world that God has created.

Would you rather have a genius IQ, or wisdom and understanding that comes only from God to be able to love Him more, and to love others as our self? If there is something that you don't understand, ask Him to show you the answers, to provide people in your life to give you wisdom. Some things will remain a mystery to us on this side of eternity, but often He does provide many answers if we just ask!
